NICHOLAS METIVIER GALLERY THE ENTIRE CITY PROJECT 2006 MICHAEL AWAD MAY 4 - 27 OPENING MAY 4, 6 - 8PM
Toronto artist and architect Michael Awad uses
custom built
photographic equipment, custom software and
techniques
adapted from military aerial reconnaissance
photography to
create unique images of the urban experience. The
Entire City
Project, initially focused on Toronto for more than
10 years, has
expanded to document other cities. For his first
exhibition at
the Nicholas Metivier Gallery, Awad will present an
international
survey of major cities from North America and
Europe,
in conjunction with his installation for CONTACT at
Toronto’s
Pearson International Airport – for details see
CONTACT Public Installations.
The Entire City Project examines the richness of
the urban landscape.
Everyday city life is revealed in its spatial and
visual complexity.
Common experiences such as a cab ride or a visit
to a shopping
mall yield the same dynamic energy as a parade or
carnival.
